Fabric Passion Forum Share Your Project - Susan *LINK* *PIC* Posted By: Dana Lacy Chapman Greetings,
A while back, we enjoyed a quilt that Susan made in black and white combining several design and technique components and the result was terrific.
Here is another quilt by Susan who explained, “The quilt was made for a landscape architect and her husband. They live in Northern California where they own a lovely cottage style home. They collect talavera pots and have them scattered all over their own lovely garden. She and her husband have been caring for her parents, one of whom is experiencing the rapid onset of Alzheimer’s. She and her husband have been tireless in their care of both of her parents and I wanted to give them something cheerful and meaningful.
“The fabrics and style exemplify their careers as landscape architects and their talavera pot collecting. I used the talavera fabrics as borders and then cut out the little talavera birds and appliquéd them into the blocks containing the flowers. Although the picture does not show the reverse, I used the leftover fabrics and created a log cabin design on the reverse side. It was a labor of love for people who deserve good things to happen to them since they work tirelessly to help her parents as they experience a difficult transition in their lives.”

Thanks for sharing this wonderful quilt with us, Susan. The warmth of color and cheer in the design are so lifting! It is a gloomy day here today, and this really has livened up things! I am the folks for whom you made the quilt found it the same! Make sure to click on the link to see the close up, as the flowers are wonderfully alive!
The talavera style (just in case that term is new to you) can be seen in the fabric below from the Marblehead collection by Ro Gregg for Fabri-Quilt.
