Greetings!

Weddings bring inspirations, do they not? We have a very special quilt to share with you: Becky’s first!

She wrote, “A photo of my first quilt is attached, which I made for my son's wedding last summer. What amazes me is that I was able to choose pattern and fabrics that suit each of them (Becky’s son and her daughter for whom she just finished another wedding quilt) - they are so different, as are their quilts. (We’ll see the daughter’s quilt – Becky’s second after her wedding!)

"It's titled ;Hopscotch Nine Patch' from the book, Quilts, Quilts, Quilts!!! - Second Edition (by Diana McClun and Laura Nownes). Now the one for my son is all about them as a couple. They live in Brooklyn, in an ethnically diverse neighborhood, have traveled to many countries. She is a physician treating the underprivileged of color, while he teaches 3rd grade in nearby neighborhoods. So a quilt with children of many colors, a scrappy quilt to reflect their tumult of joy in life, was perfect for them. I am amazed that both (my daughter’s and my son’s) quilts flowed out of me!

“After I had finished the top, I gave the backing fabric, batting and binding to a friend who then hand quilted it. She grew up ‘playing under quilts as my grandmother, aunt and mother were hand quilting.’

“It was such a complete and wonderful experience to get to know her, see her process and hear stories of her life. When my son saw the quilt I made for his sister's wedding this August, he said it was beautiful but ‘I like ours better’ and ‘thanks for being such an awesome momma, and for creating these beautiful gifts for us (that match our styles and personalities so well!)’

“Well, who could ask for more than that??”

Thank you for sharing this wonderful quilt and its story, Becky! The quilt is truly “something of Mom” given in love to your son and his wife. We look forward to sharing your daughter’s quilt, too, but will wait until she has seen it!

I continue to be amazed at your accomplishment with this first quilt!
