Lei Kukui - Hawaiian Appliqué Pattern US $14.95 |
84" quilt plus 21" pillow Perhaps when missionaries convinced Queen Kaahumanu to adopt a loose, cool
version of a Victorian gown, Hawaiian woman celebrated the freedom of the
garment by presenting them with leis. (Actually, the women were so overjoyed
that they would not be forced to wear the tight confining garments of the
Europeans and Americans that they named thir flowing robes "holoku" meaning
"We can run in it!") In any case, the lei has long stood for gift to
increase the joy of arrival and to lessen the sadness of leaving. Make this
lovely Lei Kukui pattern for an entire quilt or use the enclosed
coordinating pillow pattern a single pillow top. For a quilt with a border
you will need 4 1/2 yards for applique fabric, 5 yards background fabric,
and 5 yards backing fabric. A pillow requires 18" square for applique
fabric, 22" square background fabric, and 22" square backing fabric. To
place the pillow applique design "on-point" use a 30" square for the
background and backing. Pomaika'i! (Good luck!)By Pacific Rim Quilt Company. |
